Heavy Rain Likely in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thundershowers with gusty winds of up to 60 kmph in seven districts. According to the forecast issued on Thursday (22 August) morning, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar may experience the adverse weather.
River ports in these regions have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
In its latest 120-hour forecast, the Met Office also predicted light to moderate rain across many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

Bangladesh braces for widespread rainfall over next five days

Rainfall is likely across all eight divisions of Bangladesh over the coming days as the monsoon remains active over the country and moderate over the North Bay, according to the Meteorological Department.
In its 120-hour forecast issued on Friday (29 August), the Met office said many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, and some parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Some places may see moderate to heavy rainfall, while both day and night temperatures are expected to drop slightly.
On Saturday (30 August), widespread rain is likely in Rangpur and scattered showers in other divisions, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in some parts of Rangpur. Daytime temperatures may rise slightly, but nighttime temperatures will remain nearly unchanged.
On Sunday (31 August), many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet may see rain, while scattered showers are expected in other regions. Some areas could experience moderately heavy rainfall, with temperatures likely to rise slightly.
The extended five-day outlook suggests rainfall activity may persist across the country.

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in different parts of Bangladesh over the next five days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The forecast issued on Wednesday (27 August) said the monsoon is currently active over the country and moderate to strong over the North Bay of Bengal.
A low-pressure area lies over the northwest Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast, while the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan across northern India to Bangladesh and Assam. Under its influence, widespread rain and thundershowers are expected.
On Wednesday, heavy showers are likely in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with scattered rainfall in other regions. Some areas may experience heavy downpours.
The forecast suggests that rainfall will continue across major divisions including Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram until Friday. Light to moderate rain is expected in most divisions on Saturday and Sunday, although the overall trend of rainfall may gradually decrease by the end of the period.

Monsoon rains forecast across Bangladesh as low forms over Bay of Bengal

Bangladesh is likely to experience widespread rainfall and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours due to the active monsoon system, according to the Meteorological Department. The forecast, signed by meteorologist Khandaker Hafizur Rahman, was issued on Tuesday (26 August).
The department reported that a low-pressure area has formed near the West Bengal–Odisha coast over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The monsoon trough stretches from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, across Bangladesh’s southern region into Assam. The monsoon is currently active over Bangladesh and moderate over the north Bay.
Under these conditions, many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, along with some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions, are likely to see rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in isolated places. However, no major changes in temperature are expected.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) reported that another low-pressure system may form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours. Water levels in the Manu and Dhalai rivers of Mymensingh division may rise and remain steady for two days, while the Khwai River is expected to remain stable over the next three days. Coastal rivers in Barishal, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions may experience higher-than-normal tides for the next three days.
Though no significant rainfall was recorded inside Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, heavy showers occurred upstream in India’s Mizoram (Aizawl 76 mm) and Tripura (Kailashahar 74 mm). Looking ahead, from 26 to 29 August, moderate to moderately heavy rainfall is expected in Sylhet, Chattogram, Barishal, and Khulna divisions of Bangladesh, as well as in Meghalaya, Assam, and Tripura states of India.
