BUTEX Career Club Hosts a Career Fair 2025 After a Six-Year Break
Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) on Wednesday, September 17, hosted the much-awaited ITET–BUTEX Career Fair 2025 in a festive atmosphere on its campus. The event, organized by BUTEX Career Club with support from ITET, brought together students and top industrial representatives to foster direct interaction and career opportunities.
The fair was inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Engr. Md. Julhas Uddin. Soon after, the campus was buzzing with students carrying résumés, visiting company stalls, and exploring opportunities for jobs and internships.
Nearly 25 leading companies participated, including Dekko ISHO Group, Fakir Apparels, Masco Group, Decathlon Bangladesh, Babylon Group, SGS Bangladesh, Urmi Group, Sterling Styles, Knit Asia, Ha-Meem Group, Snowtex, Apillion Group, BRAC Career Hub, Vielatex, Fashion Step Group, DYSIN, Colortex, and Fakir Knitwears Ltd. Several companies offered on-spot recruitment. Urmi Group reported receiving 75–80 CVs, shortlisting 25 candidates, while Fakir Group completed hiring fresh graduates for its dyeing division on the same day.
Students expressed that the fair boosted their confidence and gave them a valuable chance to interact with corporate officials face-to-face.
The event also featured a panel discussion with senior officials from Fakir Group, Transfer Chemicals, Masco Group, and Maliha Export-Import Company, focusing on growth, global competition, and technological adaptation in Bangladesh’s textile sector. An HR summit followed, where top HR executives from Dekko ISHO Group, Apillion Group, Urmi Group, and Babylon Group stressed strengthening academia-industry ties and addressing skill gaps. Later in the afternoon, Inditex Zara hosted “The Professional Edge” session on soft skills, teamwork, interview preparation, and workplace adaptability.
The day-long program concluded with a closing ceremony in the evening, attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Julhas Uddin as the chief guest. Special guests included ITET convener Engr. Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Textile Engineering Division chairman Engr. Mohiuddin Ahmed Selim, Masco Group executive director Mahbub Milton, and Knit Empire Ltd. managing director Engr. Md. Enayet Hossain.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor said, “BUTEX graduates are bright and competent. We plan to establish a job center at the university to provide greater career support. Such events should be held regularly every year.”
Nazmus Sakib, president of BUTEX Career Club, said, “We are delighted to organize a career fair after six years. Alongside jobs, we focused on students’ career development through panel discussions and the HR summit.” General Secretary F.M. Sajjad added that the event was the result of six months of preparation.
With enthusiastic student participation, positive responses from companies, and a renewed call for stronger industry-academia collaboration, the ITET–BUTEX Career Fair 2025 opened new possibilities for Bangladesh’s textile sector.
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) will suspend all classes from May 20 to June 11 for Eid-ul-Adha and the summer recess. With the addition of the weekly holidays on June 12 and 13, students will enjoy a total of 25 days off. The announcement was made on Monday (May 18) through an official notice signed by Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman.
According to the notice, all university offices will also remain closed from May 20 through June 4.
Several events, however, will take place during the break. On May 25, a floral tribute will be paid at the Nazrul sculpture at 10:00 am as part of the Nazrul Birth Anniversary 2026 celebrations. All deans, directors, departmental heads, provosts, and proctors have been asked to attend. The main anniversary programme will be held on June 24 and 25, after the holiday period.
Additionally, University Day will be observed on June 3 during the break with a flag hoisting, release of pigeons, and distribution of sweets. The main events of the day will be held after the recess.
The notice further stated that security personnel and essential service staff will remain on duty throughout the holiday period. Any negligence of duty will be dealt with under the service disciplinary rules. All departments and offices have also been instructed to submit attendance records on the first working day after the recess.

The fierce resistance highlights a growing national debate over institutional autonomy and the right of specialized public universities to choose internal leadership. The unrest erupted after the Education Ministry issued an official gazette notification on May 14, appointing Professor Dr. Mohammad Iqbal from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) as the new VC. Angry students immediately rejected the decision, locking the university’s main gates and administrative buildings to completely freeze all academic and official operations.

Protesters argue that an outside academic cannot effectively grasp DUET’s unique technical educational system, specialized academic structures, and distinct field-level administrative challenges. They firmly demand that the top administrative position must be filled by one of the university’s own senior professors, whose long-term internal experience makes them far better suited to lead effectively.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain has officially assumed office as the eighth Vice Chancellor of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University.
