Emphasis on Timely Prayers as Dhaka Prayer Timings Released

Salah (prayer), the second pillar of Islam, holds immense significance after Iman (faith). On the Day of Judgment, it will be the first deed to be accounted for. For devout Muslims, performing the five daily obligatory (fard) prayers on time is of utmost importance.

Today is Wednesday, August 6, 2025 (22 Shrabon 1432 Bangla, 11 Safar 1447 Hijri). On this occasion, the Islamic Research Center in Bashundhara, Dhaka, has released the prayer timings for Dhaka and surrounding areas.

According to today’s schedule:

  • Dhuhr begins at 12:08 PM
  • Asr at 4:41 PM
  • Maghrib at 6:42 PM
  • Isha at 8:01 PM
  • Tomorrow’s Fajr will start at 4:12 AM

Today’s sunset will occur at 6:42 PM, and sunrise tomorrow will be at 5:28 AM.

Islamic scholars continuously emphasize the importance of punctuality in prayer, reminding the Muslim community that no matter how busy life gets, offering prayers on time remains a key tenet of faith and a path to salvation.

Public holiday shifted from Sept 5 to Sept 6 for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi

The government has declared September 6 (Saturday) a public holiday on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH). Earlier, the holiday was announced for September 5 but has now been rescheduled.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (August 28), the month of Rabiul Awal began on August 26 this year, placing the 12th of Rabiul Awal on September 6.

All government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain closed on the day. However, emergency services—including electricity, water, gas, fire service, telephone, internet, postal service, hospitals, medical services, and the transport of medicine and medical supplies—will remain outside the purview of the holiday.

The Bangladesh Bank will decide on banking operations, while the Supreme Court will issue directives regarding court activities.

Importance of observing prayer times highlighted

Prayer timings for Monday (25 August 2025) and Tuesday (26 August) have been announced. Observing the correct prayer times is obligatory for every Muslim, making accurate schedules essential.

On Monday, Zuhr prayer will begin at 12:01 pm and end at 4:32 pm. Asr will be from 4:33 pm to 6:22 pm, followed by sunset at 6:23 pm. Maghrib prayer will start at 6:24 pm and continue until 7:40 pm. Isha can be performed from 7:41 pm until 4:18 am.

For Tuesday, Tahajjud and Sehri will end at 4:18 am, followed by Fajr prayer from 4:19 am to 5:37 am. Sunrise is scheduled at 5:38 am. Ishraq prayer time will last from 5:53 am to 11:54 am, while Chasht can be offered between 8:54 am and 11:54 am.

Regional variations apply for divisional cities: timings should be reduced by 5 minutes in Chattogram and 6 minutes in Sylhet, while 3 minutes should be added in Khulna, 7 minutes in Rajshahi, 8 minutes in Rangpur, and 1 minute in Barishal.

Friday holds a special spiritual status in Islam, but dying on this day does not guarantee Paradise, Islamic scholars have clarified.

According to a hadith (Tirmidhi 1095), those who die on Friday or its preceding night will be spared from the trial of the grave. However, scholars stress that this should not be interpreted as an automatic entry into Paradise.

Renowned scholar Mulla Ali Qari (RA) noted that while relief from grave punishment is established, there is no evidence that it will never return until the Day of Judgment. Similarly, Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmadullah explained that death between Thursday night and Friday evening brings special mercy from Allah, easing the stages of the afterlife, but not ensuring immediate entry into Heaven.

Thus, while dying on Friday may be seen as a positive sign, scholars caution against equating it with guaranteed Paradise.
