Father and son killed in Chuadanga land dispute attack

In Chuadanga’s Alokdia union, a long-standing land dispute led to the killing of a father and son on Tuesday (26 August). The victims were identified as Tayeb Ali (40) and his son Miraj (20).

According to police, the attack took place around 11:30 am while the two were drying jute in a field. Their relatives, Babu and Raju, attacked them with sharp weapons. Miraj died on the spot, while Tayeb Ali succumbed to his injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Locals said the dispute over just 1.5 kathas of land had been ongoing for months, with several failed arbitration attempts.

Additional Superintendent of Police Naser Alam confirmed the incident, saying both Babu and Raju were arrested from the scene, and legal proceedings are underway.

Firearm, ammunition recovered from straw pile in Maheshpur

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a firearm and ammunition during an operation in Baghdanga village of Maheshpur upazila, Jhenaidah. The raid was carried out around 12:30 pm on Thursday (11 September) under the leadership of Subedar Atiar Rahman of Baghdanga BOP.

According to a press release issued by Maheshpur 58 BGB Battalion, the weapons were found hidden inside a straw pile. The seized firearm and ammunition were later handed over to Maheshpur Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge of Maheshpur Police Station, Nazrul Islam, confirmed that legal steps will be taken regarding the recovery.

The world is set to witness a rare celestial phenomenon as the year’s second total lunar eclipse takes place on Sunday, September 7. The eclipse will begin at 9:27 PM Bangladesh time and continue until the early hours of September 9, lasting a total of 7 hours and 27 minutes.

According to an ISPR statement, the moon will remain in total eclipse for 82 minutes, appearing blood-red due to Earth’s shadow and atmospheric reflection — a phenomenon known as the “Blood Moon.”

The rare eclipse will be visible not only in Bangladesh but also across Asia, as well as parts of Europe, Africa, and Australia. Astronomers note that this event marks one of the most remarkable astronomical spectacles of the year.

Jamaat Leader Killed in Lakshmipur Land Dispute with Uncle

A local Jamaat leader was killed in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, following a land dispute with his uncle. The incident occurred around 12 pm on Saturday at Korati Bari in Brahmopara village under Kanchanpur Union.

The victim, Sanowar Hossain (29), president of ward no. 4 Jamaat, died on the spot after being struck on the head with a spade by his uncle Kamal Hossain. Police said Kamal’s sons, Rakib (25) and Rahat (22), also assaulted Sanowar’s mother Hasina Begum (55) and brother Arif Hossain (19), leaving them seriously injured.

Sanowar’s wife, Arjina Akter, stated that she found her husband lying in a pool of blood. His mother accused Kamal of attacking him with a spade in front of family members.

Ramganj police recovered the body and detained Rakib and Rahat. Officer-in-Charge Abdul Bari said preparations are underway to file a case over the killing.
