Indian Army Chief Warns Pakistan: End State-Sponsored Terror or Lose Your Place on the Map

India’s Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, has warned that Pakistan must stop state-sponsored terrorism if it wants to retain its place on the map. He made the remarks on Friday (3 October) during an address at an army post in Rajasthan, according to a report by NDTV.

Gen. Dwivedi also said that the restraint shown by the Indian armed forces during “Operation Sindoor 1.0” will not be shown again, signalling a sterner stance in future responses.

The comments follow an earlier statement on 2 October by India’s defence minister Rajnath Singh at the Bhuj border post, who warned that if Pakistan attempts aggression in the Sir Creek area, India could respond in a manner that would “change both history and geography.”

So far, neither the army chief nor the defence ministry has announced any new operational measures; the remarks, however, are likely to sharpen security and diplomatic debate in the coming days.

Kenya’s ‘Shakahola Massacre’: Cult leader sentenced to 200 years for 191 starvation deaths

Why it matters: This is one of the most horrific incidents of religious extremism in Kenyan history, where 191 innocent people, particularly children, were systematically starved to death under the lure of ‘meeting Jesus.’

The big picture: A Kenyan court has sentenced Paul Mackenzie, leader of the ‘Good News International Ministries,’ to 200 years in prison. His 28 accomplices, who directly assisted in these brutal killings, have also been sentenced to various terms of up to 160 years.

Between the lines: Mackenzie established himself as the ‘voice of Jesus’ and ordered his followers to shun modern education and medical care. Those who refused to fast at his Shakahola Forest compound were subjected to physical torture; the cult even promoted the disposal of bodies after death as a ‘marriage to Jesus.’

Why it matters to you: This verdict sends a stern message against religious fanaticism and extremism. Autopsies revealed that most of the victims were children, and many bore signs of strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head, proving that this was not merely fasting, but a calculated massacre.

By the numbers: In 2023, more than 400 bodies were recovered from mass graves in Kenya’s Shakahola Forest. While the current verdict confirms responsibility for 191 deaths, separate cases involving terrorism and manslaughter are still pending against Mackenzie.

What’s next: Although the court opted for long-term imprisonment instead of the death penalty, the trial process for terrorism and other serious charges against Mackenzie is still ongoing. This verdict will be considered a milestone in Kenya’s judicial system for curbing the abuse of religious institutions.

The bottom line: Paul Mackenzie founded his group in 2003 and established his base in Shakahola Forest in 2019. His heinous actions have exposed the abuse of religious freedom and the lack of regulation in Kenya to the world.

Indian BJP MP makes controversial claims over 'reclaiming' Noakhali, Sylhet, and Chattogram

Why it matters: The claim made by Nishikant Dubey, a Lok Sabha member from India’s ruling BJP, regarding Bangladeshi territory could spark fresh tensions in diplomatic relations between the two countries and has become a cause for concern regarding regional stability.

The big picture: Jharkhand MP Nishikant Dubey has claimed that India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, forcibly handed over the regions of Noakhali, Sylhet, and Chattogram—which he alleged were part of the then-state of Tripura—to Pakistan. He alleged that due to this historical mistake by Nehru, India’s northeastern states have lagged behind economically, and India faces a strategic crisis as the Chattogram port is not under Indian control.

Between the lines: The underlying motivation behind Nishikant Dubey’s statement is the security and economic connectivity of India’s northeastern region. Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, a descendant of the Tripura royal family, has supported this claim, stating that if the Chattogram port were under Indian control, the pressure on the ‘Chicken’s Neck’ or Siliguri Corridor would decrease, and India’s security apparatus would be further strengthened.

What’s next: Such provocative remarks could create misunderstandings between the two neighboring countries and fuel public resentment. Although this is being viewed as the personal or political ideology of an individual MP, it has raised concerns about a potential negative impact on India-Bangladesh bilateral relations in the international arena.

The bottom line: Nishikant Dubey has been in the spotlight for various controversial comments in the past, and analysts view this new claim as a provocative move in South Asian geopolitics.

By the numbers: The history cited by Dubey regarding the 1946 Noakhali riots and the complexities of border demarcation during the partition remains a subject of historical debate, which is now being used as a political tool.
