Why Restarting Your Router Can Solve Connectivity Problems

Restarting the router is often an effective solution to Wi-Fi connectivity issues, experts suggest. When a router runs for long periods or encounters temporary glitches, a simple restart can restore stable internet access.

To restart, users are advised to unplug the router and modem from the power source, wait at least 15 seconds to one minute, then reconnect the power cables. Once the indicator lights turn on after a few minutes, the Wi-Fi connection can be tested.

Restarting not only clears temporary errors but also helps re-establish a fresh internet connection, resolving possible IP address conflicts.

However, if the issue persists even after restarting, experts recommend contacting the Internet Service Provider (ISP), as the problem may originate from the provider’s end.

Younger brother killed by elder brother over land dispute in Kushtia's Daulatpur

Why it matters: The killing of a brother by another over a family land dispute in Daulatpur, Kushtia, serves as a grim example of the dire consequences of social instability and domestic strife. This brutal murder has sparked widespread panic and concern among the local community.

The big picture: On Friday afternoon, Ataul Malitha (55) was killed by his elder brother, Tofazzel Malitha, following a dispute over homestead land in Dangmorka Madhya Para village of Adabaria Union in Daulatpur Upazila. Following a long-standing land dispute, an argument and scuffle broke out between the two brothers, during which the elder brother, Tofazzel, struck Ataul on the head with a sharp weapon.

Between the lines: The two brothers had a long-standing bitter relationship over property rights. The dispute reached a breaking point behind their homestead on Friday afternoon, escalating into a bloody confrontation. Critically injured, Ataul was first taken to the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex and later to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

What’s next: The accused, Tofazzel Malitha, has been on the run since the incident. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, Khaledur Rahman, stated that the police have initiated an investigation and multiple teams are working in the field to bring the accused to justice as soon as possible.

The bottom line: The death of a brother at the hands of his own sibling over a trivial land dispute has cast a shadow of mourning over the area. Law enforcement agencies are conducting an intensive search to arrest the perpetrator, and legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway. This event once again proves how devastating the consequences of violence can be compared to dialogue in resolving family disputes. The police administration has stated that strict action will be taken against the culprit following the autopsy and legal investigation.

Ziaur Rahman from captivity to the center of power: The turbulent chapter of 7 November

Why it matters: 7 November 1975 is a turning point in the history of Bangladesh, which not only ensured the release of Ziaur Rahman from captivity but also permanently altered the country’s power equation. This event played a major role in laying the foundation for the political and military structure of modern Bangladesh.

The big picture: After Ziaur Rahman was imprisoned during Khaled Mosharraf’s coup on 3 November, extreme chaos erupted within the army. On the night of 6 November, the ‘Biplobi Sainik Sangstha’ (Revolutionary Soldiers’ Organization), led by Colonel Taher and JSD, staged a counter-coup, resulting in the release of Ziaur Rahman and the deaths of several high-ranking officers, including Khaled Mosharraf.

Between the lines: JSD and Colonel Taher had hoped that Ziaur Rahman would support their revolutionary agenda and the implementation of their 12-point demand. However, after his release, Ziaur Rahman focused on restoring discipline within the cantonment and took a stance against JSD’s revolutionary plans, which was perceived as ‘betrayal’ by JSD.

What’s next: Ziaur Rahman quickly restored command and discipline in the army and moved to the center of state power as the Deputy Chief Martial Law Administrator. Subsequently, Colonel Taher was brought to trial and sentenced to death in 1976, a matter that remains one of the most significant topics of political debate in Bangladesh today.

The bottom line: While the events of 7 November paved the way for Ziaur Rahman’s political rise, they also gave birth to a long-standing political polarization in the name of restoring discipline in the army, which remains divided to this day as ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ versus ‘Freedom Fighter Killing Day’.

Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed after a truck rammed into a motorcycle and an autorickshaw in Melandah upazila of Jamalpur.

Why it matters: This tragic accident on the busy Jamalpur-Dewanganj road has once again highlighted the extreme negligence in road safety and traffic law enforcement. The death of three members of the same family has cast a shadow of mourning over the local community and raised concerns about public safety.

The big picture: Around 10:00 AM, a speeding truck heading towards Jamalpur lost control in the Burunga area and rammed into a motorcycle and an autorickshaw from behind. Morshed Alam, his wife Ikrama, and their eight-month-old child Rifa, who were in the autorickshaw, died on the spot or on the way to the hospital.

Between the lines: Preliminary police investigations suggest that the reckless driving of the truck driver caused this horrific accident. The motorcyclist, Shawkat Ali, was also critically injured after being hit by the same truck and died on the way to the hospital, making the incident fatal for passengers of two separate vehicles.

What’s next: Melandah police station has seized the truck and recovered the bodies of the deceased to begin legal proceedings. The police administration stated that intense efforts are underway to identify and arrest the absconding driver, and preparations are being made to file a formal case regarding the incident.

The bottom line: The untimely death of four people, including three members of a single family, has left the area in mourning. Local observers believe that it will be difficult to reduce such fatalities unless reckless driving is controlled and traffic laws are strictly enforced on the highways.
