An elderly man has been killed by his mentally unstable son in Kachua upazila of Chandpur. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, 22 November, at Noapara Pradhania Bari in Baichara village. The victim, Abdul Khalek, was 70 years old.
According to locals, a dispute over family matters escalated when his son, Md Hossain, suddenly attacked him with a sharp machete, resulting in immediate death. Family members stated that Hossain had been mentally unstable for a long time.
Noman Sarkar, the victim’s elder son, said he never imagined his mentally unwell brother would commit such a brutal act. Local UP member Ruhul Amin described the scene as unprecedented in the area and demanded stern action against the perpetrator.
As Hossain attempted to flee, villagers apprehended him and handed him over to police. Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md Azizul Islam, said the body was sent to Chandpur Government General Hospital for autopsy and that the incident is under thorough investigation.
