Police in Bangladesh have recovered a cache of firearms, including five rifles and one Light Gun (LG), from a graveyard in the Chandraganj Purba Bazar area of Begumganj Upazila, Noakhali. The operation was conducted by Lakshmipur’s Chandraganj Police Station early Sunday morning (December 7).

Chandraganj Police, acting on a tip-off, found the six weapons wrapped in paper packets hidden inside the graveyard, located on the border of Noakhali and Lakshmipur districts.

Foyzul Azim Noman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station, confirmed the recovery. He stated that the operation was carried out under the direction of senior officials and emphasized that local public representatives and residents were present during the raid.

“The seized weapons belong to unknown individuals, and we are working to identify and apprehend those involved,” OC Noman said.

Following Previous Arms Manufacturing Discovery

This recovery comes just days after the District Detective Branch (DB) police raided a workshop in West Chandraganj Bazar on December 1, where they found a pistol and a large amount of equipment used for manufacturing illegal arms. Why it matters: The killing of a brother by another over a family land dispute in Daulatpur, Kushtia, serves as a grim example of the dire consequences of social instability and domestic strife. This brutal murder has sparked widespread panic and concern among the local community.

The big picture: On Friday afternoon, Ataul Malitha (55) was killed by his elder brother, Tofazzel Malitha, following a dispute over homestead land in Dangmorka Madhya Para village of Adabaria Union in Daulatpur Upazila. Following a long-standing land dispute, an argument and scuffle broke out between the two brothers, during which the elder brother, Tofazzel, struck Ataul on the head with a sharp weapon.

Between the lines: The two brothers had a long-standing bitter relationship over property rights. The dispute reached a breaking point behind their homestead on Friday afternoon, escalating into a bloody confrontation. Critically injured, Ataul was first taken to the Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex and later to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries in the evening.
