Dhaka police tighten early morning security amid crime surge

Dhaka police have stepped up security measures with special emphasis on the early morning hours between 5 am and 8:30 am to curb crime and possible sabotage. Checkposts and patrols were intensified from midnight on Tuesday, with units from police, DB, and CTTC deployed across the city.
DC of Tejgaon Division, Ibne Mizan, said while patrols continue round the clock, particular focus is being given to the early hours as criminals and miscreants often exploit this time. DC of Ramna Division, Masud Alam, added that heightened monitoring aims to block criminal movement, and negligence by officers will lead to disciplinary action.
Officials said law enforcement is taking all necessary steps to keep the capital stable and to prevent the spread of rumors. Meanwhile, police filed a case and arrested two people after a flash procession by the banned Awami League faction in Banani.
The move comes amid a rise in crimes in Dhaka, including muggings on highways near Jatrabari’s Kajla area, where stalled vehicles in traffic jams are often targeted. Streetlights out of order and the activities of youth gangs and organized groups have further worsened the situation.
