The health condition of Gonoadhikar Parishad president and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur has improved, leading to his transfer from the ICU to a cabin at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

On Monday (September 1), Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of DMCH, briefed journalists, saying that Nur is now much better than before. However, it will take four to six weeks for his fractured nose and jawbones to heal completely.

Doctors have advised him to eat regular food, which he is able to consume, though he still experiences pain while eating. The blood clot in his eye may take another one to two weeks to recover, Asaduzzaman added.

He further stated that some blood from Nur’s nasal bleeding had entered his respiratory tract after the injury. Although he coughed up blood twice yesterday, doctors confirmed there is no cause for concern.

The hospital director said Nur is under constant monitoring by department heads, and the medical board decided to shift him from the ICU to a cabin.

Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital have confirmed that Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur does not require immediate surgery for his head injury. However, his condition will remain under observation for the next 48 to 72 hours to determine stability.

Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, gave the update on Saturday (August 30). He said Nur suffered a head injury, but surgery is not needed at this stage. His condition will be reassessed after the observation period.

Doctors further reported that the nasal pack placed in Nur’s nose to stop heavy bleeding has now been removed, and the bleeding has ceased. He also sustained a fractured jaw, which is expected to heal with treatment.

Nur is currently admitted to the ICU and is receiving advanced treatment, including oxygen support. A six-member medical board, headed by the hospital director himself, is overseeing his treatment.

Hospital authorities confirmed that Nur was never completely unconscious. He was first taken to Islami Bank Hospital following the attack, where heavy nosebleeding was treated. Later, on doctors’ advice, he was transferred to DMCH’s emergency department around 11 p.m.

The incident occurred on August 29 when a clash broke out between activists of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) and Gono Odhikar Parishad in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. Law enforcement intervened with baton charges, leaving Nur, party General Secretary Rashed Khan, and at least 50 others injured.

Nurul Haque Nur, president of Gana Adhikar Parishad and former DUCSU VP, was critically injured in clashes with police in front of the Jatiya Party headquarters in Dhaka on Friday night. The incident occurred around 8:15 pm when Gana Adhikar leaders gathered near the JP office, sparking chases and counter-chases with party activists.

Witnesses said the army intervened to disperse JP activists and gave Gana Adhikar leaders 10 minutes to leave. As they failed to comply, law enforcers carried out baton charges, leaving many injured including Nur. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a bloodied state and admitted to the ICU. Doctors later confirmed brain hemorrhage.

Rashed Khan, the party’s general secretary, along with several others, was also injured and hospitalized. He accused Awami League and Jatiya Party “goons” of attacking their rally.

On Saturday morning, a post on Nur’s verified Facebook page stated that he had regained partial consciousness but remained in intensive care. The chief adviser’s press secretary condemned the attack as “highly despicable,” while law adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul visited Nur at the hospital.
