Gold worth ₹5 crore seized from tennis balls at India-Bangladesh border

The Border Security Force (BSF) of India foiled a gold smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border, seizing gold biscuits worth around ₹5 crore. The operation took place on Saturday night (August 30) at Sadiyal’s Kuthi area in Dinhata-II block of Cooch Behar district.

Troops of the 138th Battalion of BSF intercepted suspicious items during a patrol and recovered 21 tennis balls. Hidden inside them were 43 gold biscuits weighing a total of 5.017 kilograms. According to BSF, the seized gold is valued at approximately ₹5 crore.

BSF sources confirmed that smugglers had attempted to move the gold from Bangladesh into Indian territory. Their plan was thwarted by the vigilance of the deployed jawans.

In an official statement, the Guwahati Frontier PRO of BSF said the seizure highlights the agency’s strict surveillance along the border and reiterated that efforts to curb cross-border smuggling would be further intensified. The BSF DIG of Cooch Behar sector added that the recovery was made possible due to the alertness and prompt action of the jawans on duty.
