Viral Photo Shows BNP and Awami League Leaders Side by Side

A photo of BNP central leader Forhad Hossain Azad sitting between two Awami League leaders at a Hindu community event in Panchagarh has sparked heated political debate.

The incident took place on Saturday (23 August) at a “Religious Harmony and Brotherhood” gathering in Menagram, Boda upazila. Forhad Hossain Azad, BNP’s secretary for rural development, attended as the chief guest. The viral photo showed him seated between Moni Bhushan Roy, president of Awami League’s Pamuli union unit, and Ajay Kumar Roy, Awami League leader and chairman of Panchpir union.

The picture went viral on Facebook the following day, triggering criticism and discussions in political circles. Observers noted that such incidents blur the ideological lines in grassroots politics.

Responding to the controversy, Forhad Hossain Azad said, “This was not a BNP political program but a preparatory meeting for the upcoming Durga Puja. I attended as an invited guest. Who sat beside me is not my concern. If there are allegations against anyone, the law should take its course.”

He further claimed, “Some quarters are deliberately trying to discredit me. BNP has always stood by the Hindu community, even providing volunteers to protect Puja celebrations.”

People Fed Up with Behavior of 24th Movement Activists- Kader Siddique

Abdul Kader Siddique, Bir Uttam and founder of Krishak Sramik Janata League, has said that the people of Bangladesh are fed up with the current behavior of the 24th movement activists. He made the remarks at a press conference at his residence in Tangail on Thursday (28 August).

While expressing his support for the movement, Siddique said he considered it close to the country’s independence struggle. However, he noted that the activists’ recent actions are causing public suffering. He added that although he expected their victory to last long, it is now fading quickly, labeling the current regime’s allies as “greater autocrats” than before.

Siddique also said that Bangladesh would not have been independent without Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and that Tangail’s political foundation would not have existed without Latif Siddique. He stressed the need for fair elections and stronger security in the country.

Commenting on the Latif Siddique incident, Siddique claimed that during an event organized by the ’71 Mancha, a mob handed Latif Siddique over to law enforcement. He urged that Latif Siddique be released with dignity, adding that any legal charges against him should be settled in court.

Journalists from local print and electronic media attended the press conference.
